'R-Studio' is the data recovery software published by 'R-Tools Technology'. We'll find out just how effective the software is in this review, and as usual we'll start at the website. The site is enough to confuse people from the very start. There are products and pages for Windows, Mac & Linux and you can download a demo of the R-Studio. The demo is different from most data recovery programs – the only limitation is the size of the file you can recover.
Once you've downloaded the demo, you can purchase the full version at any time and activate the software to full capacity. The first thing we notice is that the software is not set out in the simplest of ways. There's a lot to read through when your working your way through the software and recovering files doesn't seem to be as easy as other data recovery software.
After you've worked your way through the cumbersome wizard you can start to scan your hard drive for the deleted files. Here we find another down side to the software – the scan speed is extremely slow. If your looking for a quick and easy scanning engine then 'R-Studio' isn't for you – we were forced to wait a very long time to see the scan completed – over an hour.
So far 'R-Studio' isn't looking good, but there is hope yet. Once the scan was complete we found that the software had bought up a huge list of files that could be recovered, making the effectiveness of this program extremely good. That being said, the list files was so big that it took us a long time to search though the list for the files we actually needed.
As the program is so complicated, its lucky that the support, help and documentation is so thorough. There's a user manual and a FAQ and if that doesn't answer your questions there's online and phone support available.
There's not much else we can say about 'R-Studio'. For the more advanced computer users among you, this software may be right for you (if you've got the patients to wait during the long scan process), but if your more of a technophobe, you may want to look for something else. To sum up in one sentence? Although 'R-Studio' has a cumbersome interface and a slow scanning engine, the end result may be worth it if you need a thorough and comprehensive list of deleted files.
