'Windows Data Recovery' is a very effective program that is sadly extremely overpriced. The software can also be confusing to use but its effectivness might be attractive to some.

This is a review of the software – 'Windows Data Recovery'. The product is sold by the company 'Disk Doctor Labs' and is well known in the work of file recovery. The software itself is a bit more pricey than most of its competitors, but does it deserve that price tag? Lets find out.

The 'Disk Doctors' website has a number of data recovery products listed, including products like 'Photo Recovery' and 'Undelete'. At risk of making a small personal rant, I don't like it when companies do this. The products they sell do pretty much the same thing (maybe at varying levels) and in my opinion should be sold as one package. That aside, looking through the features of each is easy and you can download a trial of 'Windows Data Recovery' which, as with other data recovery programs, can show you the files it can recover before you purchase.

Downloading and installing 'Windows Data Recovery' is easy and we completed this step very quickly. Once installed you can start up the software and begin. The program is set out in the usual 'wizard' style, which allows you to go through the process step by step. The process itself is a little different to most data recovery programs. The first thing you have to do is tell the software whether its a FAT or NTFS drive. Next you have three options – Recover your data, Recover your data from a disk image and Create disk image.

When you choose the Recover your data option your presented with a few more options, including whether you want to recover data from default or lost partitions. Finally you choose from two scan speeds – quick or turbo, which instantly struck us as strange. In fact the quick scan is a very quick scan and the turbo scan is the slower more comprehensive scan. Slightly confusing.

Now the important part – the effectiveness of the scan. 'Windows Data Recovery' actually surprised us in this area. The amount of files ready to be recovered was vast, and using the turbo scan you'll probably find that this is the most one of the most thorough recovery programs. you will come across. One problem is that a lot of the files are files that you will have never heard of or seen before, meaning sifting through the files is a bit of a problem. That aside, 'Windows Data Recovery' has to be commended on this front.

Help with 'Windows Data Recovery' comes in the form of FAQs, help files, email and a company phone number, all of which are very good.

To sum up this review we have to say that 'Windows Data Recovery' is not the easiest software to use. The step by step 'wizard' could be a lot simpler and the intermediate computer user may get confused here. That aside the scanning engine is extremely good and returns a huge amount of lost files. But the other downside? The price tag. There's just as effective software on the market for half this price which really affects its ratings on our site. All in all – good software, overpriced.
